37th Annual Thanksgiving Food Drive
Enola, PA – November 20, 2023 – Following months of meticulous planning and weeks of dedicated collection efforts, the Greater Harrisburg REALTORS® Foundation proudly hosted its Annual Thanksgiving Food Drive Distribution Day on November 17, 2023. This marked the 37th consecutive year for the highly anticipated Food Drive, a tradition deeply embedded in the Greater Harrisburg REALTORS® community.
On Friday, amidst an atmosphere of gratitude and giving, REALTORS® and Business Partners gathered at the GHAR office to distribute 1,000 turkeys and Karns Foods gift cards to 24 local organizations. This event is aimed to provide a complete Thanksgiving dinner, including turkey and trimmings, to less fortunate families within the greater Harrisburg area.
Karen Detwiler, GHAR Thanksgiving Food Drive Co-Chair, expressed her heartfelt appreciation for the overwhelming support received during a challenging year. “The need is overwhelming; we had a total request for 1,900-something turkeys and gift cards throughout our community, and we were able to fulfill half of that,” said Detwiler. Looking ahead, she added, “Each year we try to give more. Next year, we’re hoping to feed 1,200 families.”
The GHAR Foundation extends a special thank you to Karns Foods for their invaluable assistance with turkeys and gift cards, contributing significantly to the success of the Food Drive.

Since its inception in 1986, the Greater Harrisburg Association of REALTORS® Foundation has been dedicated to collecting food for those in need. Over the past 37 years, the Food Drive has provided for 19,822 families in the greater Harrisburg area.
The mission of the Greater Harrisburg Association of REALTORS® Foundation is to provide financial support to non-profit charitable organizations with a housing and shelter focus, enriching the quality of life and addressing the human needs of the Greater Harrisburg community.
