35th Annual REALTORS® Thanksgiving Food Drive

ENOLA, PA (Nov. 22, 2021) – Following several months of planning and several weeks of collecting, the Greater Harrisburg REALTORS® Foundation hosted its Annual Thanksgiving Food Drive Distribution Day on November 19th. The Foundation serves as the charitable arm of the Greater Harrisburg Association of REALTORS® (GHAR) and provides housing-related service to the community. This year is the 35th year for the Food Drive. On Friday at the GHAR office, REALTORS® and Affiliate members distributed 1,200 turkeys and Karns Foods gift cards to organizations in the greater Harrisburg community.

Contributions have been collected by member REALTOR® firms and Affiliate firms throughout the fall. The contributions were designed to provide a complete Thanksgiving dinner, including turkey and trimmings, for a less fortunate family.

Thanks to the generosity of REALTORS® and Affiliate members, the Foundation was able to distribute turkeys and gift cards to feed 1,200 greater Harrisburg area families.

Karen Detwiler, GHAR Thanksgiving Food Drive Chair, thanks everyone for their generous support during this challenging year. “With great appreciation to The Greater Harrisburg Association of REALTORS® and their affiliates, we met our goal this year of providing 1,200 families with a turkey and gift card! It’s been another rewarding year, but at the same time sad to see an increase in the numbers of meals needed. This is the 35th year of feeding families from senior citizens to families with children, and those that have been displaced. We made a huge difference by helping 24 organizations throughout Cumberland, Dauphin and Perry Counties. These organizations are tremendously appreciative, and I pass that sentiment on to you! Thank you so very much.”

24 organizations picked up the turkeys and gift cards to distribute them to less fortunate families: New Hope Ministries, City of Refuge; NKA: Christian Mountain View Fellowship, Cumberland County Children and Youth, The Salvation Army Harrisburg Capital Region, NE Fire & Rescue 2, The New Hope Living Baptist Church, Zion Lutheran Church, Way of the Cross Church of the Living God, Upper Dauphin Human Services, Harrisburg Housing Authority, Millennium Neighborhood Church, Loaves of Love 2nd City Church, Antioch Tabernacle, All Nations Evanglistic Church, True Deliverance Holiness Church of God, First Zion Baptist Church, Neighborhood Center of the United Methodist Church, Hummelstown Ministries, Neighbors Helping Neighbors, Fountain Gate Church and Ministries, Bethuel Temple Church of Christ Apostolic, Gaudenzia DELTA Community, Martin Luther King Baptist Church, and Wild Heart Ministries.

GHAR wishes to give a special thank you to Karns Foods for assisting with the turkeys and the gift cards for the Food Drive.

In addition to the generous contributions from REALTORS® and Affiliate member firms, thank you to our Food Drive sponsors: A Plus Mortgage Solutions; Cody Financial Mortgage Services, Inc.; Fulton Bank; Geo W.
