REALTORS® foundation awards two grants

ENOLA, PA (December 5, 2018) – The Greater Harrisburg Association of REALTORS® Foundation awarded two grants to local charitable organizations during the Annual Holiday Luncheon on Friday, Nov. 30. Over 200 REALTOR® members and affiliate members attended.

Derek Bicksler of NextHome Capital Realty, the 2018 Foundation President, had the honor of facilitating the grant presentation on behalf of the Foundation. Two grants, each worth $2,000, were presented to Scott Shewell and Brad Gerlach of Safe Harbour and to Barbara Kohutiak and Dan Piscioneri of Domestic Violence Services of Cumberland & Perry Counties.

In the greater Harrisburg area, Domestic Violence Services of Cumberland and Perry Counties supports and empowers those who are experiencing domestic violence and promotes non-violence through social and systems change. Bicksler shared that the award will be used “to help provide victims of domestic violence with a full array of crisis intervention services including the creation of individual and safety plans and emergency shelter”.

Since 1986, Safe Harbour has been providing Long-Term Temporary Housing to help with the transition between emergency shelter and independent living within the community. Safe Harbour aids homeless individuals and families by providing housing paired with individually planned supportive services to develop values and skills for independent and self- sufficient living.

“As REALTORS®, we appreciate what you do to keep individuals in their homes. Please accept this award to support long-term temporary housing at the James Wilson Facility in Carlisle,” Bicksler announced. “Thank you for the work you do in our community”.

The mission of the Greater Harrisburg Association of REALTORS® Foundation is to financially support non-profit charitable organizations with a housing and shelter-related focus which enrich the quality of life and support the human need of the Greater Harrisburg community.

Tracy Klinger of Re/MAX Realty Professionals, Foundation Past President, believes that “the Foundation’s community service is an integral part of the Association. Since 1993, when the Foundation was formally organized, the Foundation has given an impressive $714,000 to local charities”.

Over the years, the Association and its Foundation have been involved in numerous community projects, various community revitalization and clean-up projects, scholarship drives and personal care drives. In recent years, the Foundation has shifted its focus to fundraising to support non-profit organizations in the Harrisburg area.
